Green Heron

An adult green heron sits on some branches above water. Moss dangles down from some of the branches. The bird has a dark beak and a reddish neck with a dark top to its head. Its wing feathers are a dark grayish green. It has orange feet.

A juvenile green heron wades in thew ater, amongst a sea of green vegetation. It is brown with lighter stripes on its chest and neck.

Green Herons like to fish, which may be why this adult Green Heron (top photo) was hanging out above the water and the juvenile Green Heron (bottom photo) was wading in it. But they’re tricky. Green Herons occasionally use lures, such as twigs, which they leave in the water to attract fish.[1]
