An Anhinga Staying Cool

An Anhinga sits on a branch jutting out over vegetation near a lake. The Anhinga is black, with white streaks on its wing feathers, with a curved neck, long tail feathers, and a straight yellow beak.

This cool bird is staying cool!

When I first saw this Anhinga wiggling its neck, I didn't know what it was doing. It turns out that it's called gular fluttering, which according to Catherine Griffin on Audubon, is like “the avian version of panting” (para. 7).[1]
